When I Grow Up

 “When I Grow Up” has been inspired by a vintage photograph of my aunts on Enniscrone beach in County Sligo in the 1960’s. I believe we can all relate to this child and /or “mother figure”. 

This piece features hand beading, hand stitching,embroidery and free motion stitching of Irish linen onto a vintage Foxford woollen blanket, these nostalgic blankets were a staple in our grandparents and our own homes. The iconic blanket was as resilient as the people who owned them -a strong comforting presence that connects me to my childhood.

Materials used: vintage Foxford woollen blanket, Irish linen, glass beads and sequins.
