Inspired by the wonderful words and lyrics of The Sawdoctors song "N17" this framed textile artwork has been designed and made by hand by Karena in her studio in Tuam- the very home of The Sawdoctors themselves. A selection of the lyrics have been manual typed with her vintage typewriter and hand beading, hand stitching of Donegal tweed and hand dyed fabric complete the artwork . Irish fabrics and lyrics combined .
She remembers when the song and their albums ( cassette tapes!) were released and when the band visited the Presentation School she went to - home of the Presentation Boarder, another famous Sawdoctors song.
Listening to this song really hits home especially when you haven't been home to see loved ones. The last year and a half has been challenging for so many who are away from family and friends , longing to come "home" for a hug or to travel on the famous N17.
The first few bars of the song pack a nostalgic punch and for many including Karena, memories of trips on the bus from Dublin to Tuam, plane journeys, living in Australia, being away on a J1 Visa come flooding back , the song really hits the spot of "feeling a lump in my throat". It's timeless, a classic and one that resonates with thousands all over the world.
